Hudson – A groundbreaking ceremony for the future Scott Malson football stadium will take place on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Franklin Field, near the Hudson Middle School. The stadium, made possible by a generous $2.1 million donation from Dick and Barbara Malson, will be home to the Hudson Hawks Youth Football Program, the Hudson High School Freshman and Junior Varsity Football teams, Hudson High School Boys and Girls’ Lacrosse, and all Middle School field sports programs. Hudson Community Education and Recreation youth sports teams will also use the facility. Scott Malson, son, husband and father, played football (#21) while attending Hudson City Schools, and coached football for the Hudson Hawks. Scott died five years ago of cancer at the age of 40.
The state-of-the-art, small-venue stadium with seating for over 500, will be complete with artificial turf, new energy efficient lighting and a new memorial scoreboard. Architecturally designed walkways, fencing and entryway will completely change the look of the current Franklin Field.
Barbara and Dick Malson, Sue Malson and sons Logan, Brock and Tyler Malson will help break ground for the $1.2 million project, which will open for the fall sports season. The additional funds donated by the Malson family will be used to construct the athletic building for the proposed new high school stadium.
The Hudson Hawks, represented at the ceremony by Rich Piekarski and Chris Rightnour, will oversee the management and construction of the project and, upon completion, a deed of gift will be given to the Hudson City School District. The public is welcome and invited to attend the ceremony.
The project will be managed by Regency Construction. “O” Sports are the stadium architects. A dedication ceremony and Open House for the community will take place upon completion of the stadium.
